And in 1999 trucks got ~12 mpg. So the gap has closed because this truck gets 33 mpg. 

I don’t doubt it. The point is 33mpg is “good enough” for most people. Getting double that won’t really draw a lot of buyers, especially if it meant driving a shoebox. 

I think the point he was making is that fuel economy on larger cars isn’t as much of a penalty as it used to be. Smaller cars will always be more efficient, but the gap has been closed significantly. At a certain point, consumers don’t care about economy anymore.

Well done! I know people are gonna see $3K and think its way too high, but the reality is that it would have cost a normal person twice that without your skills and experience.

Good for you. I gave up bike commuiting in Chicago after 4 years. I just had too many close calls, angry interactions, and even a night in the hospital. I miss it, but I have too many people who love me.

You are correct, I meant like private enterprise, not public utilities. Still, public companies are allowed to make profits.
