Nothing terribly strange other than a couple times trading firearms for cars on CL. Probably the strangest sequence was trading a 80 CM400a for a diesel suburban then after a couple years trading that suburban for a Ruger + cash. Interactions were all pretty normal other than the unusual currency aspect in the trade.

I’ve rented from Hertz a bunch for work and they’ve always made it easy. Enterprise has tried to run me around like this a couple times though so I don’t rent from them anymore.

I legitimately thought they stopped selling new cars here.  They still exist in the US?

For things like knocking over the valves, use a sheet of cardboard to keep track of visually similar but different items.

I came here wanting this and I am satisfied.

Roof racks on VWs are the best!

That sounds awesome. If you’re interested a good deal of us landed over at opposite-lock.com and it’s pretty vibrant most days.

Man I miss seeing your amazing garage on the regular on Oppo.  I know you sold the morgan. That was really a gorgeous car.

Gotcha - This is our current biggest problem.  Some users have problems registering but we’ve got 220+ right now so it’s working *mostly*.  If disabling an ad blocker doesn’t do it, give it a try later.

Disabling your ad-blocker and trying again usually does the trick.

This made me very sad to read, as a community we really appreciate the kind words though. We’d love nothing more than to stay here an active part of Jalopnik.

I’ve only had one really good dealership experience and it was buying a motorcycle. I called and asked what their out the door price was, he gave it to me with no dicking around, I said I’ll be there at x time to look at it.

I’ve helped to avoid the conversation the last several times I bought a car by financing outside the dealership. Worked out a sales contract with the sales guy then come back the next day to finish paperwork with a check that’s already been cut. They still try, but a firm no with the already cut check make it a quick

I met Albert Pujols once while working as a Valet at a charity function of his and he was a giant tool.  He was only a mid-upper quality pro athlete.

One of the main advantages of short term insurance is gone, it used to be very useful to cover gaps in coverage back when an insurance company would deny a claim under ‘pre-existing condition’ if you had a gap in coverage more than a month.

I have the same problem with my TDI on road trips. I start looking for a station at 1/3 tank for this reason.

Canoes are always fun and that’s a great find for a $100 canoe.  I love hauling canoes on small vehicles and used my 01 ZX3 as a hauler for a 16' canoe for years, the canoe was several feet longer than the car.

David - I’m sorry but this is past patina and firmly into the rust territory. This is even coming from a fellow rust belt inhabitant. It’s not rot yet, but it is serious scale from the look of it.

I bought a fixed 2014 TDI sportwagen in December 2018 and it’s been perfect. I’ve put about 30 thousand miles and has required zero work outside of oil change, wipers and a headlight bulb that burnt out.

I was truly confused by the ranger in the lead pic - until I looked closer and saw the non-NA plate on it.
