I am continuously impressed by the mental gymnastics that Tesla fans will do in order to justify the bad quality control on their vehicles.

The world leader in their cars spontaneously combusting as well. They have a recall like this every year for various vehicles. Their cars look great, and they have some intriguing designs, but reliability has to catch up.

I disagree. It’s better to under-promise and over-deliver than it is to over-promise and under-deliver.

We’re not past the point of no return, but simply replacing every ICE vehicle with an EV is nowhere near a big enough step to make a dent in the climate crisis. When you look at the increased infrastructure wear and mining/manufacturing of batteries, the benefits are marginal compared to simple ICE econoboxes and

Sure, on some level it’s virtue signaling to decree you will eliminate ICE vehicles in X years, but better to fall short of an ambitious goal, than to make a weak one typically. On the other hand, when have promises from these organizations ever been worth more than the air used to promise them? They’re going where

Standard AWD powertrain, better looking than most CUVs in its segment, better ergonomics than its Escape sibling.

Ah yes, more folks are working and have a bit more money than they have in 30+ years so now inflation is our fault. Not the price gouging and stock buy backs, or the PPP loan forgiveness, it’s the regular folks who’ve been scraping by for decades.

This is one of the reason Jim Farley of Ford is so adamant about selling direct. If I needed a new 1/2 ton and my local dealership was jacking up the price on an F-150, but the Dodge dealer down the block wasn’t, I’d be driving a Dodge.

i think chevy may be better positioned for the ev arms race than ford.  this next year will spell it out clearer.

First Gear: Jim Farley says lots of shit. And the fawning Detroit Free Press is more than happy to spread it. But that doesn’t mean that it’s true. And his company has delivered, like, 30,000 units? I’d say it’s premature for Boy Jim to proclaim Ford/himself the EV production champion of the world.

I have s cousin that's on the high end of middle management at UPS, and all those people have to work as drivers for a while, so I suspect there is an element of "I had to deal with it and I survived" which tends to reduce any true concern.  Also, when you see the delivery driver running from his truck to the door,

Yeah even a couple of those little cheap square pop up vents you used to see on campers back in the day would make a huge difference, and at the quantity they would be buying them would probably only be a few bucks.  But it costs money, even a little, ain’t gonna happen unless they are forced to do it.

How is a good answer, the Maserati, at the top of the article and then never mentioned?

Too many doors.

The Lexus is a great recommendation, and the best way of getting what this guy is going for. Thing is, as Richard Hammond put so well on the old TG, something feels weird about dumping that sort of money on a Lexus.

Imagine advocating for and passing a law that doesn’t benefit you personally. I don’t know if Joe is a good guy or not, but the fact that he doesn’t drive the kind of car he’s pushing for government subsidies on is encouraging.

Mining isn’t even the biggest issue. China has a near monopoly on refining. A lot of the actual materials come from Australia and South America, which is fine.

Honestly, as dumb as Manchin is on a lot of other policy decisions, this is the right approach. If it means pushing out all these made up dates to have X% of cars on the road as EVs then so be it. Reducing our reliance on China and other countries as much as we can is directionally correct. Automakers are upset
