Yep I agree. In 2020 I really thought they had turned a corner, but between nearly every engine being recalled and this, it shows you sometimes why a honda and toyota cost a little bit more.

I have flipped 5 cars over the last year or two that just need to be cleaned up, basic maintenance, and a good listing. Only got burned once so far, and made some good money.

Until the 2023 year, their infotainments have been bottom of the pile, the styling is controversial, and they traditionally have the dynamics of a wet sponge.

Might as well get the Alfa version, at least it would be rare!

Bought my new daily driver yesteday (Bolt EUV), now its time for me to find my forever project R107 SL560. Looking for red on black or black on red, hopefully full restoration and I’ll keep it forever.

Ah, the ole stick your head in the sand approach. I like it.

If you plan on keeping it a long time, it was time and money well spent.

British tabloids and gossip rags are on a completely other level than we have here in the US. They absolutely revel in any royal family drama.

Let’s not forget all the “business owners” who are juiced with PPP money.

It looks amazing. I love the contrast metals. Hopefully they can make it happen, but I have even less faith in Stellantis products than I did in FCA, and thats hard to do.

Absolutely. I’m an evenly distributed (legs to torso ratio) 6'4" and its not even close with the top up. I’ve always wanted an SL, and I know the R230's will fit but they just don’t do it for me.

How many broken promises can a guy make before the shareholders ask the board to remove him? Im sure it’s full of lackies, but how can he argue this is in the best fiduciary interest of the company?

I actually like this car. Can’t believe it. BUT, the steering wheel is horrific. Looks like its from 2001, and SO many buttons. Would be a deal killer for me, but im very particular.

Reviving this 2003 CLK 500. I have a ton of experience with the M113 5.0 V8, so I feel comfortable buying these and rehabbing them when a friend needs a solid reliable car on the cheap.

Well said. I drank the Kool-Aid until I started working for Tesla in the early days. Spent 3 years of my life there. We figured out pretty quickly that his public persona didn’t translate into work culture. I’ve been telling everyone I know how much he sucks for a decade now, and I’m glad the mainstream is finally

You can get a darn nice mild hybrid XC90 for ~$70k. PHEV will run you about $75k, but I think its worth it if he is itching to get something NICE.

Goes to show, simplicity = reliability. None of those cars are breaking the mold here. Just old platforms with all of their kinks worked out.

All Mercedes from this era tend to do this. The bumper sags from the plastic attachment points a bit.

Any reason you don’t install an aftermarket heated seat in it? Can be done in about 2 hrs with basic hand tools, or a local shop could probably do it for under $200.

Neutral - pretty much any convertible with a decent exhaust note. Amazing fun. I drove my bosses 430 Scuderia and SL65 AMG around the mountains on the bay area peninsula once, arguably the best day of my life.
