Jeebus whats that first one? Redline at 8500...do want. Second looks like an E46 dash. Also could be an E39 I suppose.

Can confirm that my mom’s Trailblazer guzzled gas at a pretty ridiculous rate.

Bummer your memory failed you. At least according to wikipedia.

With ya. My parents had an ‘02 or ‘03 Trailblazer that went 200k with basically no problems. Besides gas mileage, it was a pretty good truck. Also can confirm that hitting the hitch of one of these is no good. I rear-ended one at literally 3mph (rolled off the brake onto the gas from a stop thinking the light turned

Agreed... they always looked weird to me. Similar to a stretch limo.

Oh man, good call regardless of its heritage.

You are correct. Previous poster is not.

Nah. It sounds the proper evolution of the 993.

Used to own one. Can confirm, it wasn’t bad.

Oh man... no to the Boxster from yesterday but yes to this sucker? ;)

No. IMS failures typically happen earlier than this mileage. I’d change the oil and check for metal shavings in it. If none, I’d drive it with no worries.

I drove a base ‘99 986 Boxster for a weekend. 5 speed. 2.5 engine. Thing was an absolute blast, and honestly how fast do you “need” to go. That sucker would hustle around corners in 3rd gear up toward redline and sounded amazing while doing it. A pure sports car (as I see them...read that as convertible and manual

The nice thing about the IMS issue is that when you change the oil, you can just have them check for metal shavings/pieces in the oil. If there aren’t any, you’re probably good to go with no IMS needed for a car with 135k miles. IMS tends to go much earlier than this and usually on cars that aren’t driven much.

Maybe maybe not. Yours is the knee jerk reaction. Fact is, Porsche builds their motors to last. Especially the more they are drive. Yes, your average repairs and maintenance are going to be expensive. But not outrageously so.

Agree about the sound of the flat 6. Even in lesser powered forms like the original 986 2.5, it still sounds glorious as your row through the gears.

Fail. I met a guy in New England with 400k on his 996 911 turbo. Porsche builds these motors to last.

You probably could pickup a well sorted one for $10k I bet. Unless that market has changed alot recently. Or you could buy this one, get it detailed and fix everything that a PPI at a good independent shop recommends for about $10k too. One thing I just thought of is that the cool thing about old Porsches is that you

Username checks out. And I don’t disagree with your perspective. But a $5k boxster checks alot of boxes (see what I did there?) for me and it’s not alot of coin. Yes, repair costs on this or any other German car can get outrageous, but Porsche’s in general are known to be pretty darn reliable. I’d be willing to roll

When it lets go completely yes. But there are typically tale tell signs in the oil beforehand.

This. Moooooost IMS failures tend to happen to cars that aren’t driven enough. Obviously there are exceptions and this one could be one, but I wouldn’t spend the $2k or whatever to fix the IMS without looking at the oil first.
