I unplugged mine (I don't use FiOS) and promptly went to California for 3 weeks. When I got back the incessant beeping had stopped. Not sure how long it took, but it does stop.

that's way smaller than the FiOS box in my basement. Still, it's mighty huge, but a few years ago they were an order of magnitude larger.
