Budget, man. Japanese movies made for the domestic market are made with a production budget of US$3million - $30million. Ghibli anime and the like are on the high end of this spectrum. One anime series (13 23minute episodes) cost about $US2-3million to make. You can’t buy quality CG with this kind of budget...
