The Kinks:

The three part saga that is Mothership Connection, The Clones of Dr. Funkenstein, and Funkentelechy vs The Placebo Syndrome

“That version of Veidt is never shown recording a video (and the reference to Redford’s political career is mostly a one-off joke about the divergence from our reality);”

It’s like you crashed into my life like a tiny hurricane, ripped me out of my boring and humdrum routine, and showed me that life could be about so much more than earning a paycheck, before conveniently dying of incurable cancer!

Sealioning needs more respect.

I can’t believe there’s a football discussion happening today without making mention of the new defensive strategy the Browns unleashed last night. I’d say it’s revolutionary, but it almost seems past due that someone realize how easy it is to rip off a quarterback’s helmet and bludgeon them to death with it. Game

Great article, Donna. I was gutted to see you weren’t reviewing it - having kept up with your Breaking Bad/Better Call Saul reviews, both in real time and in retrospect during rewatches - so it's fantastic to hear your view on it all.

Conan’s going to have to update his lever...

These movies are, of course, titanic achievements.

I’ve always liked the fact that Enzo was a poker-faced guy who absolutely looked the part of a steely mob enforcer, and nobody would’ve known he wasn’t if they didn’t see him light a cigarette with trembling hands.

Pip Torrens, Ruth Negga, and Julie Ann Emery ended up being the series MVP’s for me, with Noah Taylor, Graham McTavish, Cooper and Gilgun close behind. It’s especially a goddamn shame Negga and Torrens don’t have some awards recognition of some sort for what they did here.

Maybe Tide is trying to appeal to blue collar Americans who don’t have their own washer and dryer. Why do you hate the poor, John/X? I thought you were men of the people.

Maybe I’m being the ultimate asshole by screwing up this whole thing you’ve got going on here.

You know what, I went to YouTube, and Raylan does say it to a perp.  I wonder which Art-ism I have this confused with?

That’s not Aubrey Plaza?

Don’t know the context for your complaint about people yelling at you, but it reminded me of that Raylan Givens line from Justified:

Yeah, it’s a film I absolutely love, while also understanding why it never caught on. Feels like it was a tiny bit ahead of the big wave of Sherlock Holmes revivals that would have given it safe harbor either in movies or on TV.

Apparently women can get it too. Take a look at Angela Lansbury in The Manchurian Candidate (1962) Then take a look at her in Murder, She Wrote (1984-1996). She hardly aged at all, looking late 50s the whole time!

I love that the whole “doctor-patient confidentiality” thing didn’t apply to, ya know, women. Nah, your husband is TOTALLY entitled to know all of your medical shit before you do. Their little lady brains just couldn’t possibly process that information without their husband to explain it to them.
