Read some more comments where people are committing to just that?

Then why are so many customers and employees saying it isn’t better?

They aren’t ready to admit it yet.

This is the inanity of quotas for low margin high volume sales. Anyone with talent for sales won’t waste their time trying to get novices to find blood from a stone. They will have an honest to god commissioned position with quota and bonuses and can work a high margin sale for days to weeks to months and reap the

Nailed it.

Equal parts desperation and false belief that merely fondling what you love is doing what you love.

It didn’t cause the last recession per se, it exacerbated the recession to far greater proportions than it potentially should have. Because there was easy cash to be made on the way up and everyone wanted in.

Based on Gamestop flailing about when they’ve cornered the exclusively gaming retail market, it’s hard to imagine anyone trying to compete against them AND everyone else kind of in the market from Valve to Amazon to Target.

Because they’re still wringing out marginal profits from Gamestop.

It might be worth discovery, more so than dealing with a retailer that doesn’t want to sell your games first and foremost over used/trade in inventory.

More power to you for being able to explain it and not letting known shitty practices on behalf of GS deter you.

I agree with the “just find another job” strawman being just that. To reference Charlie Kelly - there is no job cannon to shoot you at a job tree full of jobbies.

I guess...

You think you’re getting better information from a self interested salesperson trying to make quota than soliciting a plethora of opinions in a dedicated thread on Penny Arcade?

I know that this is a huge no-no in retail sales because it limits the upside sales potential but...

To an extent yes, customers should be vigilant.

I’m just thankful that the impact of not making a moral stand isn’t life and death. But the argument presented leaves a lot of leeway for people to justify anything in the name of their livelihood. If someone was embezzling from Gamestop would similar allowances be made for them? After all they’re just trying to eat.

10 years perhaps. They’re the only national brick and mortar video game chain and have considerable market power because of that but they’ve been slowly transitioning to a video game culture store and it remains to be seen how robust that is to economic turmoil.

Anyone who has the skills to hack it at Gamestop management has the skills to hack it at a much more lucrative management position while still being able to enjoy gaming in their downtime. The draw of games doesn’t factor into the question of most people with those skills.
