I remember after giving birth to my son being super depressed that I couldn’t BF. So my husband said: let’s make the best of it and go have lunch. Not a luxury many new parents can enjoy!

Man, more power to any new mom who can get an hour or two to herself (or out with her husband, girlfriends, etc.). You suddenly feel like everything you have belongs to a tiny, adorable, demanding creature. A brief respite to wear clean clothes and engage with adults can help keep you sane.

While many of these points are valid, I think a better way to summarize this is that many people misstate their calories when calorie counting and not as much that there are inherent problems with calorie counting. It takes discipline not only to eat better, but to track it all as well. If you start to take shortcuts…

I think an important caveat is that calorie counting is probably better than nothing, but may not be accurate. Keeping track of what your eating and being aware is better than just eating everything willy nilly, especially if you’re trying to lose weight.
