Maybe it’s not the actors that are driving the lack of excitement, but rather the trailers we’ve seen so far? It looks like a really slick network production. Which, I don’t know ... blah?
What’s the current thinking as to whether you can contract this virus from touching surfaces? There still doesn’t seem to be any consensus on this issue. The literature is all over the place.
I think you’re missing the heart of Zack’s question, though. While, generally speaking, it’s silly to question the motives of a serial killer, it’s a question that MUST be asked here. Because, otherwise, WHY IS SHE IN THIS SHOW?! This is a show about warring crime families in 1950 KC. If she has no motivation…
That’s all well and good ... so why is she in this show? This show is about warring crime families in 1950 KC. And also about a random serial killer? Why?
Spot on. A part for a spaceship!! It’s so utterly silly.
If someone told 1999 Me, as I walked into the theater, that there is a “podrace” scene in the movie I was about to see that itself runs an inexplicable 9 minutes, and the plot surrounding the race IS nearly 1/3 of the movie, and it plays out like a Looney- Tunes cartoon, and it includes (i) a racer that craps out and…
“As an aside, I’d say that RotJ is the best Star Wars film up until you see Wicket’s feet. The ‘failed’ rescue of Han, the death of Jabbi and the speed biker chase scene are Star Wars on top form.”
Speaking of victimhood, yesterday I was reading an opinion piece in WSJ (mainly because I like to look at the MAGA hats getting trolled in the comment section) and among the conservatives as a whole - NOT limited to MAGA chuds - is this WHOLLY ACCEPTED characterization of the impeachment proceedings as nothing more…
I don’t understand how we can talk about terrible acting on this show and not talk about the woman who plays Swanee. WOW is she bad. And that southern(?) or Texas(?) accent she puts on makes it ten times worse. I feel like Gaetano, Zelmare and Swanee are in a different show than the rest of the cast. It’s Looney Tunes-…
Pardon me for my silly question, but why would the other characters know, or assume to know, that Swanee is Native American? She doesn’t tell them, so they would have no reason to think so. And she’s played by a white actor. And the show is set in 1950. I can’t fathom why anyone would reach that conclusion.
“But the margins in the final swing states actually were pretty close.”
So perfectly stated.
My bold statement of the day: Revolutionary Road is my favorite book by my favorite author. The film is aggressively ... ok.
This album is genuinely blowing me away. “The Valley” is incredible. I’m going to check her other albums out asap. Cheers!
This is why I come here. Not really feeling anything covered in the article, but I come down to the comments and here’s this intriguing note about a project between Thou and a singer I haven’t heard of before. Say what? And then I listen to it. And then ... wow! Thanks for the recommendation! I had not heard anything…
It was bullshit whatever it was. It was the writers saying: “we forgot to tell you that what we were going for here is that Elena’s behavior fit in with the systemic racism in Shaker Heights. Our bad. Here’s a fucking narrator to fill in that gap in the most lazy way possible.”
The way you frame your assessment is a bit harsh, but I strongly agree with your conclusions. This show was terrible. AWFUL. Ridiculous melodrama and a baffling final episode that was inconsistent with just about anything we had seen before (particularly with regard to Elena’s character). I said this in another…
This show plays like a trashy soap opera all gussied up like a prestige drama. I assume it’s safe to say that the book is not that? Curious to read it.
“If your product requires you to recruit people to sell for you so you get a cut of their clients, and then their clients, it’s a scam.”
