The closed captioning on this show is superb.

Not only lazy, but it’s the trap that every damn Netflix show seems to fall into ... TOO MUCH PLOT. We’ve got the BTK Killer on the loose. We’ve got the team tracking the Atlanta Child Murderer. We’ve got continued interviews with serial killers. There’s a lot going on. WHY, then, do we need a freaking on the nose

Jacob’s Ladders

I’m calling BS on you lumping The Munsters into your list of “lazily written dreck.”  The Munsters was great.  Genuinely subversive stuff.

Loving the new Hold Steady as well. And you are on point re. Sleater-Kinney. Yuck. Not into it. I’ve never cared for St. Vincent, so go figure.

counterpoint: your opinion is hot garbage

I’ve seen THS several times, both with Franz and without.  From a live show perspective, Franz’s absence was palpable. He and Craig are the dual centerpiece for the band on stage. So glad he’s back in the fold.

this deserves WAY more stars.  shame I only have one to give

This is a great article. On the unemployment rate, while it is important to know what it was at the depth of the Great Recession, it is also worth noting that in December 2007 it jumped to 5%. Throughout 2006 and into most of 2007, it had hovered around 4.4-4.6%, so the needle was already moving negatively (and, in

I’m trying to get my head around how this senator’s politics should somehow alter my sympathy for this tragic death. Also, looks like this poor kid died in a manner that was at least foreseeable given the problems they had with getting this ride in working order in the first place. And then your statement regarding

Wow your post is fucking gross

I don’t think you are being pedantic. It is incorrect to suggest (as the author does) that bond prices are going up because yields are going down. That’s not how it works. In fact it’s the opposite of how it works. Your explanation is spot on.

I’m belatedly commenting to echo your sentiment. Judging the entire season based solely on the first four episodes is unfortunate, because this show gets REALLY good once it finds its voice around episodes 5 and 6. I HIGHLY recommend a watch.

I love you

Pro tip: You could drink water and then tip around $3ish dollars per visit (20% of a $15 pasta meal).

I love how they groaned and also nice call back when Brick said “taking back the house” :D”

I was saying this in another post. The sheer length of the pod race scenes, coupled with the utterly juvenile approach to the whole thing, is hands down the biggest problem with this movie. The Death Star battle was treated with the seriousness it deserved - the stakes were huge. We are (I guess?) supposed to feel the

I was 25 in 1999 and a huge SW fan, so I have a good anecdotal recollection of the collective reaction that I’ll share. It’s kind of in the middle of your characterization that everyone was “giddy” and “satisfied” and the other characterization that people were wildly disappointed and angry. I recall a fairly muted

TPM is a shit movie, for sure. I’m not in the minority opinion on this issue. However, I feel like I AM in the minority on this portion of my opinion: Jar Jar aside, the pod race is, by far, what makes this movie as lousy as it is. Imagine if I told you, in 1998 after you watched the first trailer, that over 1/3 of

My son (he’s a cute little 1-year old) has a tree nut allergy and, of course, we found out the hard way. He developed a severe head-to-toe rash and swelling around his eyes. Thankfully, no swelling in the throat. His doc told us, however, that the fact his throat didn’t swell this time doesn’t mean it won’t in the
