I rarely watch golf and I only clicked this article because it was about Tiger almost winning.

But that really doesn’t tell us many details.
According to the linked article from Cleveland.com:
I’m sure they drink coffee and tell lies when they’re fishing too.
I can’t wait until that’s how people describe me....
Oh man I hear you! My worst are the retired dairy farmers who are “selling” all the crap they have accumulated over the past 50 years: a beat to shit 1985 White 4wd with 9000hrs? $21,000. Real value: $12,000 in good shape with half the hours. A bobcat 642 $12,000. Real value: $7,000. Rusty 4 bottom plow that’s been…
I worked at a place that could only take 48' trailers because they had to back down an alley off a street that was too narrow to do with a 53'. Several times we had OTR drivers show up with 53' that would try to back down the alley (we told them not to) Everyone of them left with new scrapes on their bumpers from the…
Working on an old vehicle has exposed me to a lot of people like this. Me offering $50: “I can get this part new on Amazon for $75 and you want $100 for it rusty and used.” Guy selling stuff on Craigslist: But that’s Chinese crap (it’s not-its NOS) and mine part is road-tested.”
Exactly! Engaging or not engaging in consumerism doesn’t make a person good or bad.
In my experience you can tell a good dealer when you get in the car for the test drive and the tank is 3/4 or more full. I know it happens that they may be lower (just got the car in, just got back from a weekend test, etc) but to me a pretty full tank is an indication they’re not going to screw around with you too…
Last truck I bought I emailed the seller for more pics, then sent an offer, got a counter offer and we met in the middle on price pending inspection. I then went and looked at it and paid for it and hauled it home.
Exploring the country and the historical points and markers are always my weaknesses when I roadtrip. I think I wouldn’t make any money OTR because I’d be stopping all the time and missing dock times left and right....
I think I know you too well because I’ve been waiting for this post.
Thanks, that makes sense-when you’re girlfriend is with you you have a conversation partner and travel buddy to make the trip go faster. When she isn’t with you you have an on-going shit talk session with co-workers (or people in the same job as you) which also makes the time go quick.
Serious question: other than watching out for idiots, how do you keep your mind occupied when you’re going down the road? Books on tape? Talk radio? Jamming tunes? Comedians on satellite radio?
I rode a friend’s 500 a few times back in the day and instead of a throttle it could have just had an on/off toggle switch and gotten the same results. I grew up riding late 70's dirt bikes and the 500 triple was insane even compared to them.
I agree with your definitions of benchmarking and baselining.
Great read! I love these reprints on The Stacks.
I have been tremendously mediocre at everything I’ve done on my life. But I’ve done a ton of stuff and I have great stories, a few pics and almost no trophies. I’m ok with that.
You just said it:
