Serious question ... rather than say “thank you for your service” (I have not served in the military) I’ve taken to doing this: whenever I see someone with one of those “___ Veteran” baseball caps, I say, “Excuse me, I like your hat.” Good/no good?

I became a big Carli Lloyd fan when my soccer-playing teen daughter and I watched the World Cup final. One of the most spectacular performances I’ve ever seen by an athlete in any sport. A few months later, I got to tell her so — she was behind me in the lost-luggage line in the Philly airport :)
