yeah it feels shitty to take it out on the DEVS for delivering something when it’s more specifically going to be the higher ups (directors etc) pushing them to do the thing.

The idea of trying to enjoy art without acknowledging the conditions under which that art was created is just so foreign to me.

If you put a name on a product that you have no hand in, just fuck you. It is the absolute lowest celeb bullshit.

Yeah I adore this film, but I agree, the title might be the worst I’ve seen for a movie, both because it seemingly conveys nothing of what the film is about, and also because considering Friedkin’s last film was the Exorcist, titling a film like Sorcerer is definitely going to cause viewers to make some assumptions…

I just rewatched To Live and Die in LA a couple weeks back and it sure does hold up nicely.  Friedkin was a wild man, not the most loveable of people going by the Exorcist production, but damn could he make a gritty film.  French Connection really didn't make any part of New York look good and it was years before Taxi…

“Sorcerer” is an amazing film.

To Live and Die in LA was insanely ahead of its time. We’re presented with an apparent hero in the Dirty Harry mold as a “cowboy cop” who isn’t afraid to break the rules if it means taking down the bad guys...and then he’s slowly revealed to be a reckless idiot who is the direct cause of many of his own problems. And…

Oof. That’s a big one.

That arrest was such BS. Honestly, I’d be surprised if people weren’t masturbating in the audience at a porn theater. It seems like they were a great place for the cops to get the arrest quotas up if they were lagging behind.

Every once in a while, a work of art comes along that’s so influential you’re able to divide popular culture into before and after that work. That’s what Reuben’s created with Pee-wee.

Without Pee-wee’s Playhouse there’d be no Simpsons to Nicktoons. Even today, you can still feel the kind of energy and postmodern humor…

I think society changed enough since then that we all collectively realized how silly it was that we prudishly shamed Reubens for doing a totally harmless normal thing, and Reubens felt that.

Dude was brilliant in every role. Even his turn in the original Buffy the Vampire Slayer elevated a largely forgettable movie. It’s a shame all his talent was overshadowed by the fact that he pulled pud in a smut house.

This sucks.

Absolutely devastating loss. One of the most beautiful voices in music. I don’t know when I’ll ever be able to listen to this again without crying like a baby.

Thank you for that belated tribute to the late, lovely, immensely talented Jan Hooks. Seriously, I don’t want to take away from Ms. O’Connor, but Jan Hooks never really got the recognition she deserved for being a key part of a fantastic cast. Her and Nora Dunn’s “Sweeney Sisters” could have sung circles around Bill…
