Yup! At the end of the day, it isn’t worth living “miserably” 35 years of your adult life so you can life “better” in retirement. The trick is that the definition of miserable and better vary from person to person!

Yup! And we have to appreciate that, for some people, being “bogged down” with a large mortgage and associated costs is buying them the lifestyle they want while for others it is committing them to a lifestyle they don’t want.

One of the lessons I’m learning in my 30s is that, as a society, we do a really bad job of encouraging people to really discern what they want. Of course, with all financial advice, there’s not necessarily one “right” answer. But with every individual, there should be a real soul-searching process that I don’t think

Watching The Good Place, I kept being reminded of the book Sophie’s World in the way that it helped frame different moral philosophies.

Then double down and get twice as many drinks for free by enjoying your holiday drinks in-store and then getting a free refill (if you have a green membership or higher - fifty cent refill if you don’t have a Starbucks card pretty much) on each and then have a coffee/tea/iced-coffee to go.

Language seems to be the place where most of us refuse to see the forest for the trees... meaning, the whole point of language is to communicate. Language services to get a point across. It is a means to an end, not an end in itself. Therefore, the most pedantic arguments, in my opinions, are the ones that essentially

Thank you for repeatedly telling me how wrong I am and how thoroughly you disagree. I can no longer invest the time in replying to your posts to tell you how you’ve missed the point of my original comment and seem to miss the point that I am also agreeing with you in this issue.

I’m not ignoring that... I specifically mention that in my original post... that some employees will not struggle.

To be clear: I am arguing that companies should still include birth control as part of their health care package. The point is that a company choosing to NOT provide birth control because it is arguing that it goes against their religious beliefs to have to pay for it is not skipping the issue by not including it in a

Notre Dame is, of course, still paying for birth control for employees. Notre Dame compensates its employees through salary and through benefits. All they are doing is making employees pay for their birth control through the salary portion instead of the benefits portion.

I think that presumes a correlation between prior sex-offender conviction and future child-trafficking that I’m not sure is warranted based on the information provided.

If only we knew: Had Kaepernick actively led people in armed rebellion against his fellow citizens I guess this Administration would have seen him as an honorable man who was driven to do what he did because of a lack of compromise on both sides. Instead, he had the audacity to take a knee in peaceful protest... What

Woah, woah, woah, next you’re going to undermine other stuff I was taught as fact as a child... like that marijuana is just as bad as cocaine.

In a similar situation, I’m wondering if it isn’t a better investment to really start spoiling my nieces and nephews lol. A thousand dollars here or a used car there might have a really high rate of return when I’m too old to care for myself lol!

One time I cut out soda for like a year and am not exaggerating when I say that I think that single-handedly saved me enough for a small vacation. It does all add up; you are so right.

Yeah, isn’t that the biggest gamble for all of us? Too conservative and you’ll die with a giant bucket list and a ton of cash in the bank, too spendy and you’ll end up with some memories but a horrible last decade or two.

By far one of the best articles I have ready in all of my years of reading the Gawker family of blogs. Thank you so much for posting.

Thankfully I’ve never worked at a place where this was a (visible) issue. My coworkers and I all seem to enjoy hearing about one another’s trips and some of us end up using all our vacation to travel the globe while others like to take the time to stay at home but nobody seems bitter about it.

Take advantage of the free (or 50 cent) refills. If you have a “green” status reward level (I don’t even know what that takes) or a gold, refills are free but even if you just walk in off the street I think they are only 50 cents and you can get a refill of something other than what you were drinking. I’ve done this

I totally agree with this and we use it for pretty much the exact same reasons. It’s not like we look at it every 10 seconds. But it sure is better than needing to ask for ETAs (and sometimes safer if the other person is driving.) And you are totally right, for meal prep timing it is invaluable.
