First world problem, I know...but. How come they can’t make household appliances that don’t do anything except what they are designed to do? We had to replace our 25+year washer and dryer and it took us all morning (after a week of delivery headaches that ended up in us having to go pick up the dryer), to install it.…
It sounds like Florida where there are MANY different accents. My extended family is from the northern panhandle and it’s a very different accent from nearby GA and maybe a little more like lower Alabama, but not quite. When my husband married int0 my family, he could barely understand some of my NWF relatives. I’d…
They are stupid. Yay!
Talk about shooting themselves in the foot. My Republican parents lived in a retirement community and were often in and out of PT rehab or the hospital in their final years. They always voted by mail and ballots were automatically sent to them. Neither of them (or others in their retirement community) were super…
I use Silver Swan as an all purpose vinegar (and in place of rice wine vinegar). It’s not too acidic and has a very neutral taste. For some reason I don’t like rice wine vinegar. Apple cider vinegar for pickling. Balsamic or another fruity mild aged vinegar for darker salad dressings and white wine vinegar for pale…
MAMA Creamy Tom Yum. Hand’s down. Its sodium content is high, but not as high as many others. Add a little more water than called for, chop up some scallions and/or tomatoes and add a soft boiled egg and maybe some chili oil. If you serve that in a bowl...well, you’re in restaurant territory. I also often make a…
ooooh...I forgot about the Gardein meatballs. They are very fennel forward (which I love), juicy and lovely in sauce. My meat-eating husband actually prefers them.
They remind me of school cafeteria chicken sandwiches...and that’s not a bad thing!
Beyond Brats! Hands down. Their breakfast sausages are really good too. Morningstar Farms Grillers for burgers and gyros. Gardein porkless bites (ditch the syrupy sauce) floured and browned up for stews. They taste more like beef than the beefless bites for some reason. I can eat the chicken substitutes on a sandwich…
The mall of my youth contained a Parisians and a Gayfers. Gayfers offered a girls class called “White Gloves and Party Manners.” They also had a teen board of local popular high school girls, of which I was not a part. Still bitter about that. Bitches!
Am I the only one who remembers when Frankel appeared on Martha Stewart’s version of The Apprentice? I think it was Frankel who uttered the phrase “fake it til you make it!” and Martha cut her down so low and hard. It was brutal. I wonder if that’s where the idea for this awful TV show.
Homemade pretzels with beer cheese and mustard. SOLD! If it’s on the menu I’m ordering it.
Yes, maybe “awful” was unfair. He’s fine. Himbo is a good description.
Ben Affleck and Mark Wahlberg (OMG The Happening) are the worst actors still getting roles in movies today. I’m sure they have other talents - acting isn’t one of them. So, yeah, I don’t really care who Ben’s dating because Jennifer Lopez isn’t unforgettably awesome at anything either, except keeping herself looking…
I really do understand your viewpoint. One of my dearest friends grew up poor in a large Catholic family. She has a sore spot with used items, and likes to buy new things now that she can - although she does appreciate it when I go to thrift stores and purchase things for her that I know she’d like! I know her size…
I NEVER donate to Salvation Army. I don’t shop their either, which isn’t a difficult choice because our local one is dirty and has crap stuff.
I’ve been a thrifter all my life. I’ve noticed a difference in prices. Most stores have a “boutique” section these days and often it’s funny because the higher priced items are really not desirable or in fashion, just brands that used to cost a lot of money.
Cheaper (and better) subsidized healthcare and childcare, extensive paid family leave, guaranteed paid sick leave and vacation days are all reasons my son and his wife - both born in the US, with various degrees from Smith College, Florida State and the University of New South Wales - are now Australian citizens. It…
