The one thing that suggests it is real is that the WP spoke to the boyfriend. Unless he’s a shill - and why would he be if there was a risk of having his name plastered in national news? - there does seem to be an asshole at the center of this.

Sure, but one doesn’t have to be an expert on “rape psychology” (?) to understand that talking about ‘lonely farmers’ misses the point. Rape of enslaved women wasn’t about someone evil who happened to be ‘lonely’ and sought companionship through rape. Raping enslaved women was both an expression of power and a way of

Admittedly, if I had once been so stupid and had awful taste in men that I’d fucked Ken Starr, I’d probably want to take that information to my grave too.

This. I used to think having a single PTO bank was great because I was used to toxic employers that wanted to know if you were REALLY sick and that discouraged using vacation. With everything being PTO, then you just took your time. But that also meant it was impossible to take a significant vacation, because what if

I used to work at a company with a guy who regularly came in at 6 a.m. (for an ordinary office job) so he could leave for a sports club commitment - which meant he stayed until 5 p.m. most days. And of course management was snippy about it, because even though they knew this guy was in before everyone and put in

While that’s true, it can also add to the cognitive load of PTO - am I taking too many days off? Is my manager going to be OK with this just because my co-worker’s manager was OK with his time off? Am I taking it too soon after I just took some PTO?

Right. In California, paid vacation time is considered to be wages if the employee leaves before the vacation is used up (Labor Code section 227.3). Since unlimited time off is presented as a flexible working schedule rather than as compensation of “X paid days off”, it doesn’t accrue, and therefore it’s not wages

As you note, it’s a corporate culture where your managers are playing you off against one another.

In California, PTO has value and must be paid like any other compensation. That’s why so many Silicon Valley companies tout unlimited PTO as a big innovative favor. Like so many of the other “perks” they offer, this is really a gift to the company that they pretend is a big ol’ favor they’re doing out of the kindness

Literally nothing prevents a company from implementing a policy that employees can take Fridays off during slow periods without it being counted as ‘vacation days’.

It’s always, always projection.

Agree, since there is a history of accidents on that road, whatever agency is responsible for it should be doing more than just putting up a single sign, for the safety of other drivers and residents if nothing else.

Nope. Video would have been used to identify the righteous dealers of justice on his ass.

Luckily, nobody took pictures! Investigations are going to end up with a whole lot of “I’m sorry, officer, I didn’t see a thing, I was celebrating the happy couple’s union, no I don’t know who did it”.

There are plenty of roads that are poorly designed and are crash magnets, but this isn’t a case of someone pulling through an unexpected sharp turn at 30 mph and getting hurt.

What’s “absurd” about acknowledging that one person, the driver, was operating the vehicle and making the decisions about how fast it would go? Are you seriously arguing that the only two possible scenarios here are “passengers egging the driver on” or “conspiracy theory/serial killer”?

It’s entirely possible the passengers were not willing parties, since they were not the ones operating the vehicle.

You are absolutely right that Twix are superior frozen and make a great cooling snack, but what is with this pretense that having an entire bag of mini-candy means you’re only going to feel the need to eat one?

Nope. He’s already made the pilgrimage, but I find it hard to believe that he’s going to get the nod over Mandel after his deleted tweets. Although, as you note, weirder shit happens.

I know people who grew up where he did and laughed at the idea that he was in “hillbilly” country or “from a holler”. And didn’t his grandma lend him $30,000 or something similar?
