I feel bad for my hypothetical future kids because whatever last name we give them ( mine or my husbands’s) they are in for a future of slowly spelling and respelling their name.

Also, why is a woman’s last name her dad’s last name but a man’s last name (the one he also probably got from his father) his? What do I have the right to as a woman in society?

There isn’t any confusion with the kids though. I’ve not had any in six+ years of parenting. And I’m the primary caregiver doing all the things with them with a different name. It’s not an issue. We are not any less of a “unit”. That’s pretty offensive.

I’m more interested in how the hippos fit in.
