Man. Stories like this are why it always gets me when people say things like, "Society is going downhill! People are so TERRIBLE to each other nowadays! What happened to the good old days?" There were no "good old days." Not ever. People have always just been awful, and it was easier to hide it.

This is the honest truth. We've been through serious health issues, employment travails and every kind of hardship that can be thrown at a couple. I've seen my wife bald from chemo, almost dying in an emergency room and if anything, watching her fight her way back to life made me love her even more.

I think in the long term, your spouse is going to see you at your absolute worst, through illnesses, mourning, aging, etc. If seeing someone at their worst kills your spark, you shouldn't be marrying them.
