I hope that some day I have the cash and the garage space to buy something like this for a while in order to save its memory. It would be cool to own but like most people commenting, I’d probably have to throw more money at it than makes sense.

How about OnStar? I really want to hear the conversation when it activates under heavy braking and you can tell the operator that you just hit the apex at turn 1.
There should be a comparison that just shows that there is an R in each name. How did R become a performance differentiator?
Porsche may secretly love it, but I’m pretty they don’t love the fact that it’s someone else scoring the margin on something like this.
I’m not an owner but I’ve heard from many others who drive the car hard that the diff shutdowns are down to abuse, because there is no temperature sensor and it saves itself under specific conditions. Many others have reported driving it hard but properly and have had no issues.
1st: Life is full of lessons so for me, I would have tried to put more money down on my CPO Golf. It is still in great mechanical condition but the exterior is starting to show its age by having paint flake off in certain areas. I still have a little over a year in payments so I’m trying to pay it off sooner.
As my uncle likes to say to the fresh engineers that join him, “congratulations on graduating, now it’s time to learn.”
I like that idea. I only had a few classes about drafting and proper tolerancing and those are things that extremely useful if you end up in legit engineering.
Yes, it’s all true. I’m not a big fan of the phrase “you’re an engineer, you figure it out”. Hands on learning is a problem at many universities (mine in Canada was a polytechnic institute way back and they’ve drifted from that vision).
I do not, which means it’s going to be a long time until I can do a Z06 “Vette kart”
Excellent, although if I’m ever able to it, it will be a long time from now.
Where does this fit on the recommendation scale for someone building a track car between “take my money” and “here’s a bus pass”?
You’re going to have to link to that comment now.
2.5L 5spd? Driving at 80mph in my Golf, 5th gear is about 3500 RPM and the mileage is pretty terrible. I’m impressed you get 38-40 mpg normally.
The 407 works really well but I think what people are frustrated about is that the government had a very short term view on the project and ended up losing so much money. Now I only drive it when traffic on the 401 is truly horrible because my route will cost about $20.
What is the best sounding 4 cylinder turbo? I’m interested in ones that still have mufflers and don’t just make synthetic pops and crackles.
This whole story lets me repost one of the classic Jalopnik stories about an STI saving lives.
Great job! How easy/hard is it to wheel with a stick? Some of those obstacles look like you’d probably want to avoid rolling back if you have to stop.
Worst: 2010 VW Golf
The only time I’ve been pulled over so far was when I got hit for speeding while a cop was sitting in the same spot my parents have both been grabbed from. I had my friends in the car because we were going to a class trip and I pulled over basically before the lights went on. I had my paperwork in place when he walked…
