I think it’ll end up CP, because most of us don’t like other people’s projects, especially from defunct turbo manufacturers, but the cleanness of the build and what looks like evidence of hard driving seems to show that the parts are solid. There are lots of other interesting options at $13k but if you’re looking for

It’s interesting that the nickname “Dragon Lady” wasn’t used at all. When did you that name come up?

1st and N: how much will Tesla’s Gigafactory improve the deficit? Can they possibly save $4k per battery pack or will be something like $1-2k?

You mention tires, so have you driven either with proper A/T rubber? I imagine during press launches and long term tests JLR wants to give you the tire that has the best of both worlds but isn’t particularly good at either.

This is essentially a byproduct of all of the conflicting standards that exist around the world, not just for helmets, but vehicle crash safety and anything with regional restrictions. I’m surprised that more manufacturers don’t put pressure on their lobbyists to try to negotiate the sharing of the strictest standard,

Security is always an ongoing battle, regardless of the platform. It’s probably not feasible to disable all CANBUS writing from infotainment systems, but there needs to be pretty heavy validation before the car actually turns off the engine. I’m sure some smart people are working on that already.

My favourite episodes are generally the ones where they buy a local car in some far away land, so I hope Amazon lets them do a lot more of those. The only thing I hope they stop is ruining the cars for the sake of the show. That Indian Mini was so nice originally...

Calabogie represent! It’s great they’re testing in my backyard, I’ll be lapping there again next week.

Is a convertible always a sports car? What is the performance threshold for a “sports car”?

I suggest reading a little more about his work now, rather than basing everything on his work from the beginning (the Smoking Tire podcast is a good place to start).

I would consider this truck. Just finished a weekend of trailering a 3000# boat about 1000 km roundtrip and could have really used a diesel.

I think Tyler’s covered that before on FA, but as far as I remember the long story short is cost. In terms of investment, the military has chosen to spend that cash elsewhere.

Second that!

I’ve always loved this generation of Passat. My dad had a fully loaded sedan in 2001 that I learned to drive in, and I loved the classiness of the black with chrome accents.

At what value does a car basically need a LoJack or some other remote location monitoring tool?

That tan is hilarious. The contrast between that and the whiteness of his hair is like getting tinted windows on a white car

It’s interesting to note that Google probably designs the cars to drive almost exactly the way the law states (ie. full stops at stop signs) when the reality is that most drivers tend to adjust the law slightly for convenience. Obviously this still means that the puny humans are responsible for the crashes, but I bet

During my last track event, after a session of lapping, I heard a vibration and rattle from the front end so I pulled into the pits and checked the wheels with someone else’s torque wrench. Front left was way loose. My suspicion is that the location I had a tech inspection wasn’t familiar with German wheel specs and

I find it’s the opposite: after a day of going at 10/10s it’s nice to drive home at a slow cruise.

Yep, my last event had an RS4 driver who was admittedly new to lapping, but still would not point, even with an instructor. He’d also blast down the straights and inevitably my Golf would end up on his bumper at the next corner. Eventually he was black flagged in front of me...
