Yeah, Apple kinda aimed for a different beast here. They think their target is Tiger Lake, but Ryzen APUs are absurdly strong for their type and will be the real fight in the benchmark deluge.

Or the 16er MBPro, which I reckon could harness a more powerful 8-big-core chip.

So far, the absolute best Intel laptop I can think of that is comparable is the Dell XPS13 (though I think Asus’s Zenbook lines have the new Tiger Lake, never seen benches yet for it), while the absolute best AMD laptop (with an iGPU) is Lenovo’s Yoga Slim 7. If that 13er Pro can stay over/under margin-of-error, match…

Well, AMD is basically selling all the Ryzen 5000 chips they can make for their current stack, so if you want a 4-core, you only have a 3300X. That said, even without the CPU/GPU synergy, I reckon going for RDNA2 graphics will net a big upgrade...whenever Radeon releases the low-end RDNA2 GPU.

My 2019 MacBook Air is watching this event and is having an existential crisis. As for me, I’d rather see how well the 13ers perform vs the HP Envy x360, the laptop that was supposed to replace my Air.
