Nah, Cromartie's fine. He's used to being on the receiving end of what started as an innocent blow and became a lifetime of trying to remember someone's name.
If the NCAA and its member universities are arguing that players shouldn't be paid because they're already receiving something of value, that argument is disingenuous if said something is of no (or very tiny) expense to the school making the argument. How is that not relevant?
I understand what you're saying, but (and correct me if I'm wrong here) they're not basing enrollment spots on an overall number but a number aside from what the set aside for scholarships, no? The small percentage of athletic scholarship students in any one given class isn't being used to exclude paying students, is…
The percentage of scholarship-receiving athletes as compared to the general student population is miniscule. The classes are being taught anyway, sticking a few seats in for 200-300 (or even 1000) athletes as compared to student bodies in the tens of thousands is not something that requires extra spending of any…
If one of the arguments is that they're already getting something of value from the school, then yes, arguing that said valuable item doesn't actually cost the school anything significant is both relevant and something (by definition of the fact the argument has been made) people care about.
There is another argument as far as the "value of education" argument, in that while it is certainly valuable to the students who actually care about the education, it's value neutral to the school. It's not as if they're keeping students willing to pay out of those classes for students who don't have to pay tuition…
