Lakes != rivers.

Not like there was much else she could do in that situation. Might as well document it.

Burying the Lede here... Green wraps make the world a better place 💚💚

Wheels (and the tires that are attached to them).

Tires. All day, every day.

A few years ago NJ increased its gas tax to normal levels and the gas there isn’t cheaper any more.

I do not have a single fuck to give about that. I’d rather pay more to pump the gas myself and not have somebody touch my car, or now my truck.

The past several years before covid I drove from Burlington, VT to Wayne, NJ for a long weekend for a convention and (bus or train) side trip for an extra day in NYC. Gas prices had a consistent highest-to-lowest order:

This is a Reddit-, not Kinja-, worthy comment. Thank you, fine person, for commenting on this generally forsaken platform... had a few laughs with this one.

ah ha ha ha ha

Same with Oregon. One time I was driving over-night to Seattle and of course we stopped for gas somewhere in the middle of nowhere Oregon, in the middle of the night. I just pull up to the pump and start doing my thing when this old dude comes running out. My girlfriend at the time thought I was going to get murdered.

Weymouth, too. I tried to get out and do my usual thing, and after a good 30 seconds of trying to figure out why the pump interface was subtly different than what I’m used to, a stranger (the attendant, but just wearing normal-ass clothing) came over and was like, “You can’t do that here.” It’s stupid.

They’re not even full service. I once asked an attendant about checking the air in my tires and he was like “the air is over that way.” And once I asked for 5 gallons and the guy said “I can only go by dollar amounts.

Part of the draw of full service restaurants is forcing you to slow down, having nothing to do but engage with the people you’re at the restaurant with.

Gas used to be notably cheaper in NJ. Last I knew it wasn’t really worth the detour anymore.

Now playing

I tried pumping my own a few times in NJ many years ago because I didn’t trust the attendant to not dribble gas on my 1968 Mustang, which had an abrupt angle from the rear fill. Once a young woman came out and stopped me, only to have the nozzle jump out. I told her this is why I wanted to do it, and she grumpily said

Do full service restaurants shove food into your mouth so it spills down your shirt after you say you’re full?

The worst. I’ll never understand it. It’s shocking to me that a law from 1949 banning self-service gas pumping on safety grounds is still on the books. I guess it’s probably an easy gig for some teenager...

The Mazda one is definitely an improvement.
