It’s a good way to get your way in the moment, but used too often it has a nasty habit of eating away at respect. My parents used to use that one on me and after a while the response in my head became “ Oh, F#$% You....”

Notably absent: “Don’t make me go get my belt/take off this belt
That was always a powerful one when I was growing up. Instant Act-Right.

All these driver assist should be mandated to be on a hard button that can easily be turned off and on

Touchscreen infotainment systems - because more often than not they are garbage and cannot be upgraded.
AEB - because 9 times out of 10 it activates when it shouldn’t or after I’ve already started reacting to the issue.
Advanced Cruise Control - Because I have yet to drive use a version that doesn’t overreact every

I’d argue that those menus could be more easily navigated on a phone as well. You’re going to connect your phone to your car over bluetooth anyway and the infotainment system has a direct connection to the a lot of the vehicle’s controls, so why not just have an Android or iOS app that accomplishes the same

I’d rather just not have touch screens. If anything, just give me a place to dock my phone and move the unnecessary-but-mandatory backup camera up to a digital rearview mirror like it should’ve been from the start. I can just wipe off my phone when it gets smudged... and I can replace it whenever I feel like.

How about the BroDozer bigass turbo diesel sound? Sounds like an old man’s weak incontinent asshole sharting into a tuba.

Every... single... crossover.

I think there are going to be limitations if you want the car to be safe.

I wouldn’t say it’s a magic bullet, just a better bullet. Like comparing a modern rifled round to an old black-powder ball. We need a better option but the success or failure is still up to the execution of the people aiming the weapon (writing the legislation, in this case) and pulling the trigger.

There are at least two or three strong candidates in development stages closer to commercialization than to university research labs, and several more in earlier stages of development that have hopes of knocking Li-Ion off its throne. I can’t remember the specifics at the moment, I blame the alcohol, but sodium-ion

EV manufacturers already have a shitload of incentives to keep developing their EV’s through tax write-offs, subsidies, and kush deals with local municipalities for properties and construction deals to make them. They’ll be fine.

With the price of lithium going through the roof to support these artificially cheaper

None of those things have anything to do with the point of the tax in the first place. Efficiency and environmental concerns have no bearing on the wear and tear on the infrastructure the vehicles use. Heavy vehicles wear down the infrastructure faster. Vehicles that drive more miles wear down the infrastructure

Nope, saw it, hence the “lol”

lol, “More” < “Correct”. I value fixing things over bodging them. I fully expect that any attempt to address this issue will certainly be a bodge because our government knows no other way to be, but I will still root for cures over treatments.

Or just replace the gas tax that hasn’t been updated in 30 years. They will get used to it just as quickly.

I want lighter EVs, so I vote for the same weight charges for both ICE and EV.

That effectively only tracks when people enter or leave a state. It does not provide any data about how many miles are driven within any given state. To make every single road in the US a toll road would cost billions to implement.

lol, at registration time yes, but there should not be any GPS tracker to opt out of. Odometer reading at registration or keep the status quo.

Most states have figured out that weigh stations cost a lot to build, maintain and man. You’d have to make the income from this venture not only balance the removal of the taxes on diesel, but also pay for the weigh stations. The entire trucking industry will lobby against that harder than the NRA lobbying against
