So really the Banshee design was used for the 68 Corvette with a few modifications.
They ended up with a fat Cougar by 1974 anyway!
And they can be easily upgraded to Comet, Montego or Shelby taillamps. Newer Pinto taillamps 1977–80 can even be retrofitted to Maverick as well as all Mercury Bobcat lamps.
According to historical books the Maverick nearly replaced the Mustang since the Mustang got big and heavy with steadily declining sales. Then later the initial smaller Mustang styling exercises were based on Mavericks but later got switched to Pinto size to become the Mustang II.
Except that it does not have Pinto taillamps. The Pinto has Maverick taillamps.

Thats what sold Ford Granadas 🤣😂🤣😂
I have to disagree with you there. Those steelies have a design which makes it look like it’s running on four temporary spares. Camaros in the old days has cool looking steelies up to the last of the third gen models before aluminum wheels became standard.
Consider as well that many LEDs are installed in older halogen lamps with fogged up lenses
The Japanese imports were sensible sedan styled small families could use whereas the American domestics tried to pass off cramped 2-door cars as subcompacts.
My parents had a 1978 Dodge Colt Carousel coupe white with red stripes and red vinyl roof, white vinyl interior. This was our family car bought for my step-mother to drive after my parents got wary of the 1973 Plymouth Satellite Sebring coupe that was getting old and temperamental. The Colt turned out to be a great…
