I’d say try it. I was pretty leery of the series but bored one day opened the first and couldn’t put it down. I think the portrayal of children growing up and trying to grow out of poverty, the different way it affects them is pretty nuanced, spot-on. Pretty realistic, 3-D characterizations.

I think it’s perfectly appropriate to mock people whose ground rules essentially proclaim that neither of them believe that he is to be trusted. And it’s doubly appropriate when those same people have turned their lives into a crusade to police the morality of others.
