Well...I’m not sure I love the way Edgar (who was the one who pushed for a formal wedding when J+G were originally content to elope) did a 180 and became a giant dick trying to stop the wedding. Was Edgar a dick the whole time or did the writers change the character as a plot device?

My rule (made up by me) is that at a bare minimum you should be able to exchange pleasantries and know your pleases and thank yous etc. in the native language. After that just do your best and it usually works out.
