How about this: we achieve diversity through methods that don’t feel like cheap, lazy pandering attempts cooked up in 30 seconds by uncreative executives, in movies that need to be better or more profitable than an average entry in the franchise to justify their existence, but are destined to be mediocre because they

Good to see that the AVClub can trade on inflamatory stories that inspire these kind of mob social media attacks AND faux sympathetic stories about the horrible effect that these kind of attacks have on people.

Yea how dare they!

I think there’s another issue at play here, which you’re getting at. And I think Disney and the major studios arent the only causes. I think major studios AND the arthouse studios/distributors largely abandoned the middle ground.

You bring up a good point. The airline industry is another industry that has been made significantly worse in recent years by corporate “streamlining"

He said he’d work with Joss Whedon again.

Yea that’s because it’s not ableist in the US, because it doesnt have that context here. I’m assuming you’re North American so apologies if not.

Headline should be: Old white dude has standard old white dude opinion.

I get it, but It’s really not unreasonable to expect a basic level of clarity from a piece of journalism, especially when reporting about the reasons for a person’s firing.

Can we stop comparing this show to John Le Carre now? I see this in every review, and every time I read it, my first thought is that writer hasn’t actually seen the show.

I feel like we should be using this. Please enjoy The Batman... after you watch this embedded, uncensored news coverage of what your government is doing to you and the Ukranian people

Crediting Musk for the products that his companies produce is like crediting the CEO of Random House for writing Lord Of The Rings. It’s factually incorrect and insulting to the people that did the work.

Never liked Musk, but I’m less worried about this than most for two reasons.

Just remember: We can’t divorce gender conversations from internet toxicity if we’re using these sorts of announcements to scold each other. This should be a celebration, not a reason to get out the knives out.

Yes but Twitter is incredibly effective at generating really cheap “news” stories. Why should any media outlet do expensive investigative journalism when you can simply shit out 500 words about what Trump or Elon Musk or Billie Eilish tweeted? And get 10x the clicks.

What? God no! Just ignore Twitter. It’s awful. But Jesus christ don’t make it an official part of the of the country.

Free speech covers broadcast companies too. Meaning they have the freedom to choose what they do, or do not, broadcast.

As a “free speech absolutist” you’d think he would recognize that freedom of speech for a broadcaster means they should not be forced to broadcast something, or someone, they don’t want to.

It definitely could be a sign of age related mental illness like alzheimers or dementia though. Judgment is one of the first things to go.

Who is the “you” that should decide this though? We’re talking about a whole bunch of Grammy voters making individual decisions. I’m sure most of them decided not to vote for CK.
