I don’t disagree with you on the diversity front, but I think a big strength of the HP books is the very minimal character description. Generally, unless it somehow factored into the story, character descriptions were left out. It was only in book 7 that we were even told Ron’s eye colour.

It’s not surprising at all from Ian Fleming, but it’s not necessarily ridiculous to have certain expectations of non-modern writers.
