Splatfest tomorrow! I’ll be spending a decent chunk of my weekend submerged in ink in Splatoon 2. Ever the rogue, I’ll be holding it down for team invisibility. Flying is nice and all, but it’s got nothing on sneaking up behind your enemies or the rare sense of confidence that no one on the subway is staring at you

As DL’s Double Down Summer begins to wind down, I have a mission to complete one more game: Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D. Just like Snake, I’m a somewhat reluctant soldier, but I know my duty.
I’m in the Finger Lakes region of New York this weekend for a race at Watkins Glen - the season is winding down, and I’m

I got a letter this week from a very important television personality:

Yeah, the drive to Peach’s castle was a really fun secret. It’s used for the ending ceremony, so I wonder if that might be why you can drive on it...

The original version of Toad’s Turnpike was a personal favorite. Weaving around giant, oblivious traffic always seemed to keep the race competitive, especially at 150ccs. You had to be a lot more judicious with your red shells too, as they couldn’t travel too far forward without plinking harmlessly off a semi. And of

Yes, one lap is enough for that goddamn track.

It’s not my pick, but it’s one of my favorites! The music, the length, jumping off that giant slope at the start and flying down to the bottom, it’s all incredible. I was if anything a bit disappointed with 8's rendition, where a single lap is just not enough.

I forget the exact name, but a four person grand prix race on the freeway track in Mario Kart 64 was always beautiful chaos if you ran in special cc so you were driving against traffic. Few things were more satisfying than bumping your friend directly in front on an oncoming 18wheeler and watching him get trucked as

I haven’t played Mario Kart 8 in forever, but I recall really liking Mount Wario, the ski resort stage. It doesn’t even have laps... you just slide down a snowy hill for the duration of the race! So great.

It’s kind of like picking a favorite child because so many are SO GOOD. Koopa Cape is a favorite, Maple Treeway another, but my absolute favorite is Animal Crossing, which combines a fun design that incorporates many elements from the franchise of origin with a seasonal approach that makes subtle changes to the track.

Whoa cool, a Sunday Gameological article?! Neat. Thanks, folks.

I feel unoriginal but Mt. Wario is the one that I always hope shows up when I’m playing. Yoshi’s Valley was my favorite on N64 (Wario Stadium was a close second when I was able to time the lightning bolt when other people were jumping over the gap). Waluigi Pinball was my favorite DS track and Music Park was favorite

Also, excuse me for being obtuse, but is this not a “Gameological” article? I just checked the “games” section of the site, and it’s nowhere to be seen. I don’t quite grok how stuff is being sorted after the change, and I honestly had to start using an RSS reader again to make any sense out of it all.

The vast majority of my wins on Rainbow Road 64 were by successfully executing the “leap of faith” shortcut every lap.

Now playing

I’m all about Mount Wario! I love all the brass instruments, and the way it amps up in the final lap makes the track (which is already one of my favorites) even more satisfying to race on.

Way too long and once you get behind there is almost no way to make up ground.

I like (at least the Mario Kart 8 recreation of) Rainbow Road 64! It’s really pretty, and feels like a nice, conclusive track. Even the obstacles feel celebratory.

If anyone picks Rainbow Road from Mario Kart 64, we will have words.

It’d half to be Dino Dino Jungle from Double Dash, for me. It worked great for me Bowser, Jr./Diddy Kong combo, since the tight corridors made avoiding a giant shell and banana really hard. Dino Dino has lots of obstacles, multiple routes, and very slow moving dinosaur legs are easy to avoid, yet you’re somehow drawn

I have a huge weakness for Baby Park. 7 Laps of small oval insanity? Don’t mind if I do.
