I suppose the best only-sort-of-cheating answer would be Resident Evil, since it’s changed identities twice now, going from puzzlebox survival horror to action horror to Amnesia/Outlast-inspired walking simulator horror across seven entries. Game franchises tend to rely on incremental improvements from instalment to

Darn! My comment comparing Ken Levine’s Bioshock to Theodore Gericault’s Le Radeau de la Meduse was the most scintillating attempt at commenting I’ve had in months, and it’s stuck in Disqus purgatory.I didn’t get a chance to read that Half Life article, nor the associated story treatment. Good excuse to go back...

To be fair, blinking through timelines in the Borealis section could have been groundbreaking at the time, think of a longer version of that awesome Titanfall 2 level where you go backwards and forwards in time, playing through multiple timelines. That’s probably my favorite mechanic of a game that’s released recently

Re: HL2E3:

It’s perfect as far as I’m concerned. You get the implication that the Combine are simply too massive and powerful for the efforts of Earth to have done anything to harm them in the long run, which just drives home the “Multidimensional Corporate Space Overlords” theme even harder. Earth might’ve bucked the

Trumpified? I mean, it’s a shit system and it’s ruined the layout of everything but we’re still white supremacist free down here in the comments... which is actually a big deal for a video game website.

I know Plot wasn’t the main focus but the world-building was cool enough (the opening world building segment of Half-Life 2 is my fav part of the whole game) that I was interested to hear how it all ends. I mean, I would’ve preferred to play through all of that a couple of months after I finished Ep 2 but what can you

Not going to lie, I love the idea of going back to a print edition of the AV Club and then organizing meetups where everyone can sit around in folding chairs at some community center, rustling their newspapers and keeping the comments flowing. But unfortunately, I can’t go to sparsely populated community centers

While it is nice to get some level of resolution on the Half-Life issue, it hardly seems like the plot of the games is the reason why people played them. Don’t get me wrong, both Half-Life games did a fantastic job of wrapping the plot into the gameplay (the first game one, in particular, launched a whole movement

Thanks everyone who posted in WAYPTW! After a couple of discouraging WOTs, it was nice to see some evidence that we might survive the switch! (And it also means that whenever I get my game done, I’ll still have somewhere to post about it.)

Yay! We’re still here, and we’re still loquacious smartasses!

Great point. This reminds me of the beginning of Roger Ebert’s review of Platoon quoting Truffaut:

Professor! Hi! We’ve missed you, for sure. The Space Pope has been doing double duty as Futurama-based commenter in your absence.I don’t have Stardew Valley, so I can’t comment on it, but I did want to wish you well on getting some gaming in during your care of Qubert. Those “little bit or a lot” needs apply to me as

“It’s been roughly 120 years since the advent of movies, and 59 for video games. We are still awash in a flood of games where defeating enemies is the focus. It’s time for video games to achieve their Dunkirk, their The Great Escape. We need a game that maintains the essence and fun unique to the medium, but also

Yeah, I saw there’s actually an official Sony PS4 Bluetooth adapter you can plug into your PC, but it’s about $30. I figured I’d try a new $8 cord before going the more expensive route. Should be arriving today, so I’ll find out very soon.

substitute saw blade for sign and yes

Did anyone else go through Ravenholm killing only with the town’s sign and gravity gun?
