This. Friends from school who either play at working (work one wh000ole day a week) or don't at all annoy the fuck out of me, especially when they get on their high horses about hard work.

Exactly, ugh.

Err, Tattoos have been around for thousands of years. Pacific Islanders, Nu-chah-nulth, Haida, Inu, Warorani....

....Annnnd colonization strikes again.

You don't know that, though. We're not good at talking about mental health as a society, and " feel sad" might be the only way your friends can describe it.

Uhhhh, have you ever been depressed? It's not just 'unhappiness', it's not being able to function. At all.

Nice!!

Whee! What for?

It looks amazing on a resume, you make lifelong friends, there are tons of scholarship opportunities and chances to do things you wouldn't get to otherwise (I went to Australia and the UK through Scouts)

Cause it's a professional environment.

The very same!

Paid call firefighters can be douches, wildland hotshots doubly so.

Victoria's a navy town, and I have girlfriends who will make a point of going out when there will be guys from the States, Australia etc up here for exercises so this doesn't seem so absurd to me.

Ouch! That does not sound like westjet at all! Did you call customer service after the fact? I'm sure they would've worked something out if you did (my bestie is a westjetter so I'm slightly biased)

Oh dear god. That is wrong on numerous levels.

I saw that, and it's garbage. I'm glad they're addressing their customer service issues, but they shouldn't be dinging their staff for it.

Hahahahah. I'd like to see their 40 and 50something staff in these outfits, come to think of it.

Indeed. Nothing quite like being yelled at for making a reasonable request.

Being glared at by staff because I am stuck in a city that's a 2 hour ferry ride from home and want assistance is one of their lowlights for me. They only spring for hotels if you get stuck on a layover, never mind that I live on an island and can't get back to Vancouver for 5 am.
