Don’t look at the scores of movie critics. Read the review. If you know *why* a particular review liked or didn’t like a movie, you can usually figure out whether or not you would, no matter whether or not you agree.

The Republicans are losing their minds over anything and everything Disney-related these days because Disney has officially been deemed by them as being “too woke” now and “grooming” children (whatever that means). This movie checks all the Republican-rage checkmarks, especially since Ariel is played by a black person.

Say what you will about the validity of putting critics’ reviews on a pedestal, but I can at least trust that rotten tomatoes is reporting opinions from people with a modicum of media literacy who have actually experienced the film and not just the brigading of troll or stan…

There is a wealth of African (and Asian, and Middle Eastern, and South American, and even Eastern European) folklore that Disney could plunder to make new movies to appeal to a wider audience.  There’s no need to re-make any of their previous tales.
