she was pistol-whipped and driven with her baby to Bruno’s house.

This makes me uncomfortable.

Wish I had something witty to say, but I know someone else will do it.

who is of course not really an asshole at all

Thank you. I know it makes me pedantic as fuck, but seriously—why is this phrase so hard for folks to get right?

You know for an official federal memo, this was surprisingly lively and full of wit and esprit. I actually smiled while reading it.

it just means you’ve got two victims who exercised bad judgement

Fair point, re: “immoral.” I don’t like the term, perhaps because “unethical” feels better. I feel like morality is what’s in the soul, and ethics is more weighing cost vs. gain of you and others. But without splitting hairs, yes, Jose was selfish to put his friends in harm’s way, even though he probably didn’t feel

No worries, mate!

“Never ride with a drunk driver” is awesome life advice, but has nothing to do with where legal and moral blame should be placed here.

No, the two people he was with knew he was intoxicated, as they were

I feel you, but Jose’s two friends—as hard as this is to write, and it really is—bear some responsibility for what happened to them. Much in the same way that two people who voluntarily enter a car with their totally fucking smashed/coked out friend and let him drive can’t be 100% exculpated.

Thank you. :)

you’re underselling Sheed here

He’s a better Joakim Noah

and thought to himself “No, fuck this. I can’t deal with seeing all these Hot Takes tomorrow.”

This is so true. What is he? What is his precedent? Is he a Very, Very Rich Man’s Rasheed Wallace? Or the mentally unstable version of Kawhi Leonard?

I like the contrast in your writing styles, given you also wrote this recently:

Oh, c’mon. The Cavs are a de facto popular (and overcovered) team if only because 1) LeBron James is on it, and 2) they are the current champs.

It’s like the H.G. Wells classic The Time Machine but instead of going back in time over & over again to save someone she just keeps killing her child.
