The only advantage would be the foundation does the leg work in identifying charitable opportunities. But if you know that you want to donate to the ASPCA or Make A Wish or whatever...just give directly.

My family has a Foundation. There are many advantages to having a well managed Foundation as opposed to just writing checks.

The Eric Trump Foundation has it’s own overhead. If I want to help St. Jude’s, I can give directly to St. Jude’s and they will recieve 100% of my donation.
