Alexandra, greetings from the recent past. “Are there other VB games worth listening to”, you ask? Hell to the yes. See below for a funky good morning. And welcome back, whenever it is you’ve returned!

I, for one, greatly appreciate a truncated MM over no MM at all. So thank you!
No, Daddy Mulk is pretty dope. The melody is serious business for sure. I do love it; it reminds me of the Pole Position theme song:
Beyond the dark, funky bass, there’s something strangely charming about that off-pitch PSG drone in the background.....at least I think so.
A double thank you today, first for introducing me to the word “burbling”, and second for this OST! I passed over this one back in the day, so I never got to hear these beautiful tunes. So thank you thank you!
Okay, and yes, HELL YES, on Cadash. I first played that game on a double screen, 4-player cab at a free play arcade. I can’t imagine beating that game the normal way :D
Zuntata Taito music is a strange beast. I’ve never been able to really get into that aural aesthetic; the melodies are so unpredictable that lazy minds like mine have a hard time ‘feeling’ the music. Ogura and crew were definitely talented, though. But other than Night Striker and Rastan, which always had music three…
I had a similar experience, loved the music, totally brought me back. Then I spent the rest of the time fighting the camera and realized 20 years ago kinda sucked sometimes, too. Still love the music though. My kids do also; they play that first level over and over again and never get tired of it.
I have a general suggestion for future episodes of Morning Music: that you wonderful editors link to a place to purchase the music if it’s available.
SO GOOD.
It’s “stickerbush”, all.
Great selection! BTW, it was confirmed a while back by Wise himself that the correct title for “Stickerbrush Symphony” is “Stickerbush Symphony”. I believe the “r” was a typo someone introduced when the game OST was originally ripped, but don’t quote me on that. It’s spelled correctly in the pages you linked to.
Um, wow!!! Yes, that gets three exclamation points. I am super digging all of this. Already sharing it out on the intertubes. Thank you!
But neither Sorcerer’s Kindom nor Traysia were developed or produced by Sega. So Kalinske didn’t have anything to do with that.
I read the intro paragraph wrong, and I kept thinking to myself, “The music isn’t horny at all, if anything, it’s a little heavy on the cloyingly sweet strings”.
I’m not sure I follow all your points, but I’m totally with you on King Colossus. I love the OST for that one, especially the staff roll. So wistful:
Eh....
Totally agree. I guess what I should have said is that I was a hardcore Sega fan and also a Japanese RPG/action-adventure fan in spite of what Sega tended to focus their marketing and development dollars on with Kalinske at the helm.
Lunar represents to me the Sega I wished we had. Yes, a scrappy underdog, but one that spent more time publishing cool imports and unique titles than producing snarky advertisements. I know this is somewhat myopic and inaccurate, but there were so many Japanese RPGs and interesting adventure titles that never came out…
Maybe I’m old school, but I played Celeste exclusively with the D-pad. I didn’t really feel like the developers were being condescending at all with their messaging, but that’s just me. I did feel guilty using the helps the times I just couldn’t make it past a section, but I know it was my own pride. I was truly proud…
