When you sell an autobraking system, people are going to use it inappropriately. They also will likely not realize the limitations of the particular safety system they bought.
At eight bucks a mile, only a Tifosi would ride this prancing horse.
I agree that this is user error. But selling an “autobraking” system does seem like something that should be an all or nothing feature. These options are not cheap as can be seen by the $3000 pricetag for the “Pedestrian detection functionality” and so they are broken up into selectable features. The car should either…
Nothing persuades consumers to adopt new technology faster than intermittent reliability.
He probably was asking for new tires, and other sources have said Mercedes believed that other people would pit for new tires too. But when there are a few laps left and you are at a track where it is nearly impossible to pass, you should probably stay on track and deal with the soft tires no matter your lead.
I was being sarcastic. Hamilton made a poor choice and the team let him make a poor choice. It bit both of them in the ass.
Both Hamilton and Wolff have certainly fessed up to at least partial fault. Still...if your driver wants to make a poor decision, it’s probably best to dissuade him. I would like to hear Hamilton’s radio just prior to his pit stop.
This tactical error(?) on the part of Mercedes is almost unbelievable. Hamilton deserved this win.
This can’t be faux real at that price. CP all day.
It’s like Facebook stalking your ex. Be wary.
The pelvic vascular injuries are the scariest part of his injuries. Obviously I don’t know the exact nature of his injuries, but significant pelvic vascular injuries are often fatal due to the inability to slow the hemorrhage (i.e. direct pressure or compressive devices). The bleeding may have tamponaded…
I come to Jalopnik for the hard-hitting journalism.
Even the undercarriage is colormatched.
This makes me very sad. But that’s racing.
It could have turned out much worse (i.e. expensive). Was able to drill out the bolt around the EZ-out and get it out. Then drill the rest of the bolt out. It was pretty hairy for a little while.
That’s true. I don’t think Helicoil are really meant for high torque applications. You should also consider the material in which you are placing the helicoil.
This happened to me last week. Use the largest EZ-out bit you can.
I was going to post the Helicoil recommendation as well. Finding out about that was a eureka moment.
