My (admittedly limited) understanding is that the VHS releases were copies of work prints, as opposed to being based on the original negative with the color timing properly calibrated. Any time you produce a copy of a copy (ad infinitum), the quality of the separate elements that went into a composition shot will

This was an issue with the later prints that were used for home video & broadcast TV (due to poor color timing), but I can attest that the mattes were properly invisible in the original theatrical prints.

Absolutely right. A film with Cher, Susan Sarandon, Michelle Pfeiffer, Jack Nicholson — and it was straight-up stolen by Veronica Cartwright. That takes some special skill as a performer.

I hear stories like that once in a while, and it just pisses me off so much. My D&D group was a tight-knit group of guys, but even we knew that excluding someone due to gender would've been fucking insane.

This is my favorite "movie gun" of all time. I was pretty much obsessed with this thing in the years after the film came out. It's hard to explain, because I am not into real guns at all, but this one is just badass.

I still say that when I walk down the coffee aisle at the supermarket. It's basically a reflex action.

Bertolucci is another director who had a thing for portraying animal cruelty on-screen, although at least (I believe) simulated.

The only thing I did not like about "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" was that it did not include the actual Tiny Toon Adventures theme song. Which may seem nitpicky, but damn that was a great song.

Oh yeah, I've got nothing against the actual band (I thought they had a pretty interesting sound at the time). But I did think the way Kendall shut down the whole band name question was pretty awesome.

Oh, man…I'm suddenly ashamed to admit that I like Goldmember a lot more than Shagged. Perhaps because of Michael Caine.

My mom's review of Independence Day: "A Jew saves the world. How bad could it be?"

Jewel got her first exposure on Alternative radio. This was basically moments before Alternative radio stopped being eclectic, and started being all Alice In Chains ripoff bands, all the time.

It's been a very long time, but I believe it was Dave Kendall who had this wonderful exchange with Jonn Penney of Ned's Atomic Dustbin on "120 Minutes":

At some point there should be enough material for a "Reposted GJI" gimmick account.

First thing I ever saw Paul Reiser in was an HBO satire of "60 Minutes" called "The Investigators". The show featured Charles Rocket as one of the anchors, and Bill Kirchenbauer as "Angry Arnie" (their version of Andy Rooney).

Right, as far as I know, Anton Fier was founder, producer and co-writer of The Golden Palominos.

I did not, thanks for the tip!

One of my favorite exchanges in any comedy ever.

I remember seeing Love at First Bite as a kid when it first came out, and although it was funny, I thought it was already dated, what with the disco stuff (which was well on its way out by 1979).

Too right! "You're…free-er…than most men."
