It would be interesting to know how the car actually measures. I don’t think it looks that far ahead, and I wouldn’t be surprised if we discovered it’s programmed to make certain assumptions based on speed ranges.

There’s supposed to be an earth-shattering KABOOM!

I thought they were clearly supposed to explode upon impact.

> when you see it’s not moving out of the lane with a fucking overturned truck

How will Tesla autopilot do any machine-learning if humans keep bailing it out? In fact, it has apparently already learned exactly that. If you’re going to use autopilot, you have to let it crash for the sake of machine learning - it’s in

And then the truck explodes. WHERE IS MY EXPLOSION????

The autopilot software includes code from the Boring Company, which is why this Tesla vehicle attempted to drill a tunnel through the obstacle.

You aren’t getting many serious answers because it doesn’t seem like a particularly smart serious question but:

I’d guess when you see it’s not moving out of the lane with a fucking overturned truck blocking it?

Of course, you’re supposed to be using it as a driving aid (its name notwithstanding) and following along on the controls at all times. Unfortunately it can do just enough more than that to let you get into trouble that it can’t get you out of.

Don’t presume shit when it comes to software. The advertised procedure says “it is vital that you pay attention to your driving environment so you can take over if needed.”

Don’t rely on a machine to move out of the way of something that you can see is an issue from a a football field away.  Go ahead and manually move your car over and be done with it.  I am sure airline pilots don’t leave Autopilot turned on if they see another object moving into their airspace. They turn it off and

I think you intervene as soon as you observe the obstacle.  I would not wait for the system to respond.

I’m pretty positive his presence is the reason we saw brief braking, not the truck.

When you see a giant truck in the road and know you have to move two lanes over.  Do that, turn it back on.

I wondered at that.  I’m guessing that was why the brakes were initially applied.  Looks like once the car thought it was past the pedestrian it released the braked...and drove straight into the truck.  I simply can’t understand how the car doesn’t recognize the closure rate and apply the brakes.

When you go to the Tesla website and hit “order” and configure your vehicle, it gives you a $7K option for “Full Self-Driving Capability”.

When you see the truck in front of you. That’s when you take action whether or not your car has any driver assistance features active.

The Moment you see a truck on its side in front of you which in this case should have been a good amount of time to switch lanes and or brake

The airbag didn’t go off because even the car thought the driver is a moron. It just wanted to teach the driver a lesson. Nothing feels more refreshing than hitting your melon against the steering wheel.

I’m disappointed by the amount of bootlicking cop apologists in these comments. People are sick of violent, racist, corrupt cops committing crimes like murder and getting away with it. Combined with so much other shit going on, they’re at a breaking point. They want systemic change for the better. And how are people
