Yeah, people are kind of glossing over the fact that they also hand out loot boxes pretty regularly just for enjoying the game.

You’ll never catch me saying the loot box trend is “good”. I just this particular model is the lesser of a few evils.

I hear you. I’ve also spent an inordinate amount of time playing, just because the game is so good. I guess the underlying thing here is that in Overwatch, you don’t really need to buy loot boxes to collect a few cool skins if you just play the game. They drip feed them in pretty regularly through level ups.

Thanks for the well written reply. I definitely see where you’re coming from, it does feel like they’re disrespecting the consumers. I’m just trying to pick my battles. in a world where games are selling loot boxes to speed up progress in single player games, I’m hoping more people go the route of cosmetic upgrades

Loot boxes and microtransactions are not going away, the market spoke on that a long time ago. I don’t think Overwatch’s system is particularly harmful, and if we’re going to have microtransactions, I’d much rather people use that model going forward.

I can’t say I disagree with you. I think a lot of people are disgruntled with the trend, but unfortunately it’s not showing any signs of slowing down.

I mean, they still have the in-game currency that lets you buy a bunch of alternate skins.

Personally, I think the “keeping up with the Joneses” effect is way stronger for non-cosmetic items. It also negatively impacts the play experience for everyone else who plays the game without buying in to loot boxes, whereas cosmetic items do not negatively impact that play experience.

If they made all of the skins free, how do they pay for ongoing content? Would you rather have DLC packs? Those don’t work so well in an online play environment, as it fragments the playerbase.

I’m not saying loot boxes aren’t inherently evil, since they promote unhealthy gambling behavior. I’m just saying that I agree somewhat with Kaplan’s sentiments, that Overwatch is doing it in a significantly less evil way.

Yeah, you’re right. It is more for the chance. I just rank cosmetic evilness lower on the totem pole than non-cosmetic evilness.

How do you define them as evil, though? Overwatch’s loot boxes contain purely cosmetic items.

Seriously, if she’s that ill, don’t take her to your hotel room, take her home.

My steak pukes have never looked that photogenic.

These guys sound awesome, they really went all in on this project. I’m glad it is such a hit, they deserve the success.

Every time.

Right, this is the thing. It was a time and place, where your life was at, who you were playing with, etc. that made it so magical. You can never completely re-capture that part of your life.

THAT’S A FUCKING 50 DKP MINUS

Pissing the bed four times a month and disgusting her boyfriend on a regular basis clearly isn’t her “bottom”, so god knows what her bottom actually will be.
