Look, Sawchik could have chosen a better title for the article. But you’re jumping all over him for that without addressing the gist of his thesis. If he had simply titled it: “Minor leagues aren’t as important for MLB farm systems as they used to be”, it would have avoided this misunderstanding, but it wouldn’t have

Yes, it’s a rare occurrence for a team with that level of history. English teams are very different than the fly by night minor leagues we have here. With the vagaries of promotion/relegation and the economics that go with it, this year’s fourth level could be a major money maker with some shrewd investment and

This is a problem with the current situation in English football. Too many clubs are having a hard time competing financially. Look at clubs like Bolton, Villa, Sunderland (and even recently the likes of Leeds and Pompey). While Villa righted the ship, in an effort to compete with the super rich, clubs are putting

My understanding of the EFL’s “fit and proper persons” test, as it’s known, was that it was designed specifically to prevent people like this from buying a club and running it into the ground with so much apathy. Why this protocol wasn’t followed in this instance, I’ll never know.

You couldn’t have drawn up a shittier owner if you cast a gum-chomping Michael Keaton in the role.

Beats the hell out of me. One possibility is that he was just going to strip it of its assets like the players, the ground, etc.

I'm more confused what this guy's plan was. If he doesn't care about the team, why refuse to sell it for a profit? What's he betting on, that it'll be worth more trying to get into the very bottom of the pyramid?

Fuck this dude so fucking hard, and fuck whoever approved his takeover. People’s livelihoods, dreams, memories, and over a century of history were on the line, and this asshole couldn’t be bothered. Surely there had to be another route, fans buying shares, a fucking GoFundMe, ANYTHING would have been better than

I never went to Bury. It’s not a place I frequented. So for me to walk away from Bury and never go back is a very easy thing to do. I don’t do anything up there. I didn’t even know there was a football team called Bury to be honest with you. I’m not a football fan.

This is really, really sad. The local nature of soccer teams in Europe, especially in lower levels, is a true community-building piece of life. It saddens me to see this and I wish Man U or City had stepped in with a lifeline of sorts to save a beloved piece of the community, albeit with a smaller fanbase.

The Players Weekend stuff just reeks of a bunch of old white stiffs sitting around a board room table nodding confidently that they finally cracked the code on how to attract millennials.

I can tell you why I don’t go to as many baseball games. I live 40 minutes from the stadium, it costs me $100+ for tickets for my family, another $50+ on food, and usually about $20 on parking. I went more as a kid because my dad was paying. And he was more financially stable (AKA wealthy) than I am.

Pro sports franchises who have won playoff games more recently than the Lions: Supersonics, Nordiques, North Stars, Whalers.  The worst part is that the Lions might currently be the best pro sports team in Detroit.

I don’t usually go in for conspiracy theories, but come on. There’s no way that this wasn’t murder.

Exhibit #1,921 for why I will never, ever live in Philly again.

Don't forget that $10k loan from his mother. With inflation that's over $60k today...

Stephen Ross says “I started my business with nothing.”

Glad I didn’t work for NASA back then.  I would’ve told them you Can’t Get There From Here.
