You are right - most Muslims in America do not go to the extent of making women wear traditional garb all the time. Somali Muslim communities, in general, do go to that extreme. I am talking specifically about the woman in this article and her Somali Muslim community and not any other Muslim branches or communities.

This is a small, tightly knit Muslim community versus America as a whole. A woman in that community will be shunned by her friends and family for dressing in a way not prescribed by their religion.
