I dunno, I think the approach toward music licensing has changed. It makes more sense to cut or change a song (unless this is impossible, which is generally only the case with older shows) than remove an entire show.

Music licensing might explain some older shows like Arrested Development, but the large majority of these were newer series, or cartoons (which hardly ever use pre-existing songs.)
