Oh good lord yes! While the franchise maintains that sense of light-hearted fun caper film throughout, so never really gets too explicit on screen with the not so fun criminal aspects, i still find (mild SPOILER WARNING) that scene with the can-opener absolutely chilling.

I can see why it got bad reviews from fans of the anime(s) and/or manga. What I should have clarified is that I meant people familiar with them will understand the relationships between the characters, and some plot stuff, that get crammed in shorthand style because of the film length.

I watched the Full Metal Alchemist live action movie. The cgi for Al was good. The acting was seemingly stuck between trying to imitate the characters from the anime and being passable as real people. For, what I’m guessing was a made for TV movie budget, it’s an alright way to pass some time if you’ve seen the anime

I know it’s got some plot hole issues, but I’ve always had a soft spot for “Ocean’s 6" because it balanced screwball comedy with the heist so well.

Potential taglines.

Dinklage! Of course.

I’ve been on a sci-fi kick the past two weeks reading “the long way to a small angry planet” by Becky Chambers, “Sleeping Giants” by Sylvan Neuvel, “Planetfall” by Emma Newman and I’ve just finished Becky Chambers’ follow up “a closed and common orbit” today. With the later I was really moved by the depiction of young

Woke up, checked AVC, watched this.

I really enjoyed this book. I think the art, especially the colouring, is beautiful.

Yes it is.

I was thinking that the change from monster with the power to attract prey to attractive monster ties into vampires as allegory for sex (specifically outside of marriage?) and changing attitudes to relationships. The fact that the text you mention comes from a horror movie has just put me in mind of Teeth which I’ve

I understand, or thought I did, that the allure has always been there. I suppose my view was that vampires are like the Venus fly trap. The plants exude a scent to attract insects, but don’t understand the insect as anything other than sustenance, likewise the allure and nature of a vampire. It’s just an illusion. At

Avoiding doing things i ought to do i read Anno Dracula by Kim Newman.

Olympic Tetherball. Not real Olympic Tetherball, but real fake Olympic Tetherball.

Just back from seeing Ready Player One at a surprisingly packed screening, I thought everyone would be at Infinity War. It’s a bit corny and obvious but fun, I even enjoyed the Star Wars prequel referencing (aided by finishing with A New Hope influenced scene), so I’ll probably end up rewatching at home and not just

Saw Infinity War yesterday. It was fine. I was a little unerved reading the review here because it chimed exactly with what we said about it afterwards.

That was my first thought after seeing it. All the previous films have been movies of comics and you can see where they’ve made alterations to make these stories work as a film. For example, and most obviously, no spandex (except Spider-Man?). Infinity War is a comic book event that happens to be a film.

That’s an interesting take and it makes me want to revisit 2001 because, I have to admit, I hedged my bets when I put ‘anymore’ in brackets with regards to HAL’s sentience.

“Sym-bi-ote”.

Did a mini Marvel movie marathon last night in anticipation of seeing Infinity War next weekend:
