I think it pulled off it's last season and final episode really well. Definitely so much better than the first and second season. 

Plot twist: in Sunnyside, season 1 is the gas leak season.

I didn’t feel it was left open to interpretation at all. Eddie’s certainly is, but Ritchie carved their initials right after being called a slur for gay people. and it was on the bridge that is covered with other love declarations and the like.

There’s a moment toward the end when Richie’s seen carving his deceased friend Eddie’s initial (Pennywise got him) alongside his, implying that Richie might have had feelings for him, but it’s all left unsaid, and somewhat open to interpretation.
