Not everyone has the free cash to drop $20k (what I’d guess this went for previously) at the time of purchase. Doesn’t make them a deadbeat owner. The quality photos and actual attempt at cleaning the car before taking them is more effort than 90% would make, so I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt here.

I’m biased. But my karmann ghia. Considered a sports car by Volkswagen. A “poor man’s Porsche” but essentially being a rebodied beetle with whopping 60 hp on a good day. Calling it a sports car based on anything other than its looks is a stretch.

I’m not stoned enough to appreciate this... yet.

I disagree about seeing it. $300? more like $800 and some of us have a hard time getting vacation days. I get 5 and don’t live near an airport hub (so everything is connecting). I’m not using 2 of my 5 vacation days, therefore missing out time with my family, to look at a car.

I just do this:
1. 3rd party PPI
2. Stalk

Purchasing far away:

Driveable operational Porsche 928S... “To me, this is maybe a $5000 car”

I’ve not done a ton of looking around lately, but the manual-transmission 928 S isn’t the easiest car to find. The GTS is the model that really begs for your $$$, but the S models with a manual are still desirable. IMO, this is a car that could turn out to be a good investment over the long term.

Spend 10 minutes on autotrader or any other online classifieds. If this is a running, driving, & register-able 928 its NP all day! These things don’t list for less than 5 digits these days.

I’m sorry, let me clarify. The mechanic’s involvement was by no means for doing the grunt work, the deal I worked out with him was for me to do all that. His role was more to lend me his expertise (at the time he was quite respected in the local RX-7 community and had done this particular job several times before.)

‘84 944. Bought it 5 years ago not running from a kid. Spent 6 months day and night going through it, got it running, then drove it damn near every day for a year. Then one night the headlights stopped working. Found out the old ceramic fuse box was shorting out inside. Pulled it off the road, tried to fix the

1989 Chevy Corsica Fastback

This is so frustrating. People always say “I can get a junkyard motor for $500"

I voted NP. Best of luck.  Damn Jalopnik’s been full of a lot of haters recently.

I love BAT, the comments section is often a goldmine of automotive knowledge; but prices are getting a little ridiculous on there lately... it feels much more like “bring a trailer full of money” these days. I’m glad that the audience has been growing, and it’s great that the site is moving some rare and expensive

It’s not like people don’t know the cars are there. Stuff just gets in the way.

TF is this.....are you lost??? You’ve proven you’re blind so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt that you just blindly hit the keyboard and this mess came out because this is nonsense...

You spelt atrocious incorrectly.

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha *deep breath *

Sub-$1k is kind of a cheater’s way to break the CP streak, but yeah, NP.
