My suspicion is that loot boxes will not be brought back for the remainder of the “first run” of the game. If the game gets a major DLC expansion (feels unlikely at this point) loot boxes may come back.

The only way I’d be okay with them being reinstated is if they were purely for cosmetic gain and very little to no in-game multiplayer advantage.
