@yonyz: Have you tried techno? I find that it's general lack of lyrics and droning repetitive beats help drowned out ambient noise and create more focus. I don't keep the volume too loud though or it too becomes distracting.

@jigwashere: I never have had much luck with figuring out what someone is trying to say via the transcribed VM. The only benefit I've gotten from it is it's ability to catch phone numbers and make them linkable, making it easy to call whoever left the voice mail back with ease
